The Cape Hotel Cabo San Lucas

Oceanfront Escape: The Cape Hotel Cabo San Lucas Review

The Cape Hotel is one of the latest additions to the Cabo San Lucas hotel scene. Located directly on the shores of the pacific with direct beach access and views of the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas it is blessed with the perfect location for a weekend or week relaxing in Mexico. The Cape Hotel Cabo San Lucas has 115 rooms, suites and studios spread out over the main building plus two adjacent buildings with studio apartments.

Late at night after a long flight I arrive at the reception of the Cape Hotel. The entire reception and bar area is open and in the dark you can hear the waves crash on the beach a short distance away.

My room (206) is located on the second floor and reached through a short walk over the equally open gallery. The room is very spacious with a large hallway, spacious bathroom with a separate rain shower and freestanding bath tub. On the window side of the king size bed is a sitting area and along the other wall is a large flat screen tv and a desk. The rooms on the first and second floor have an extra large balcony with a daybed hanging from the ceiling and a small table with two chairs.

The style is Mexican luxury with traditional tiles on the floor and a lot of wooden furniture. The bed is comfortable although it would be nice to have some thinner pillows in the room by default. Also there is no switch next to the bed to kill all the lights so every night you need to find all the light switches.

The next morning I wake up with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean directly from the bed. I can’t wait to explore the hotel so i quickly get ready and go down to the breakfast restaurant on level -1. The restaurant has a large terrace with a beautiful view of the ocean and the waves directly in front of the hotel. It is a popular surf spot and even at this early hour (7.30am) there are already some guys trying to catch the waves. Breakfast buffet is expansive and service is good.

All rooms at The Cape Hotel Cabo San Lucas feature sea views which is a nice feature. Between the buildings are landscaped gardens with some paths and stone stairs. But the centerpiece is the infinity pool with pool bar, sun loungers and cabanas. From the early hours there is a cool vibe with music and people hanging around in the pool. It is very much a place to relax and have fun with friends.

Next to the pool is a small stairs that leads down to the beach. Due to the strong currents and the high waves it is not advised to swim in the ocean most of the time which is a shame but it goes for all Cabo hotels. Besides the pool and beach there is also a gym and Spa with a separate outdoor spa pool.

The food served at the pool is a great mix of Mexican and international food and tastes perfect although service could be a bit quicker. There are three restaurants and two bars with a good selection of local and international food and drinks. The only thing that I didn’t like is that the lobby and rooftop bar closes quite early (midnight).

Service wise there is plenty of staff and they are very friendly but not always perfect. The mini bar was not refilled and sometimes orders were forgotten or took a very long time.

The open architecture with many cool design elements gives the hotel a unique style. The tropical temperatures, amazing view and outgoing clientele do the rest. The rooms are spacious and well equipped but lack a few functionalities I would have liked. Service is good and friendly but not flawless.
